Walking by Faith & Sight

The Untold Stories of Black Successful Women

Featuring the chapter

"Faith of a Mustard Seed"
by Shoushana Yarbrough

What if the voice telling you that you're too small, too late, too ordinary is the same voice that knows exactly how ready you are? Shoushana Yarbrough writes from the threshold of her own empty nest — the moment her son left for college and every buried insecurity came rushing to the surface. What she discovered in that parking lot, in tears, with everything uncertain, was that God doesn't ask for great faith. He asks for authentic faith. Even as small as a mustard seed.

"
The voice trying to keep you small is terrified of how magnificent you're about to become.

— Shoushana Yarbrough, Walking by Faith & Sight

Inside the chapter

What you'll discover in "Faith of a Mustard Seed"

Shoushana Yarbrough stood at her son's bedroom door with her hand frozen on the doorknob — about to let go of the identity she had poured eighteen years into, and facing the terrifying question of who she was without it. What came out of that moment wasn't a motivational speech. It was a reckoning. In this chapter, Shoushana maps the landscape of the inner critic with surgical honesty, names the liar's voice for what it is, and introduces the Mustard Seed Principle — the revolutionary truth that you don't need great faith to grow into your greatness. You just need to plant one small seed of truth and trust God with the harvest.

01

Identifying the Liar's Voice

The inner critic sounds like wisdom. It sounds like protection. Shoushana teaches you how to tell the difference between the enemy's voice and God's voice — and why that distinction changes everything about how you move forward.

02

The Mustard Seed Principle

You don't need mountain-moving faith. You need authentic faith — even if it's tiny. The miracle isn't in the size of your faith; it's in the size of your God. One seed of truth, planted in the soil of His love, is enough.

03

Living from Your True Identity

Silencing the inner critic is not positive thinking — it's truth thinking. Shoushana's 5-step Truth Replacement Method gives you a practical framework for taking thoughts captive and stepping boldly into who God says you already are.

Shoushana Yarbrough

MSCM · Speaker · Author · Coach

Shoushana Yarbrough is a speaker, author, and coach who has dedicated her life to helping women silence the voices that keep them small and step boldly into the identity God designed for them. Known for her warmth, depth, and rare ability to meet women exactly where they are, Shoushana speaks from lived experience — the parking lot moments, the threshold crossings, the seasons of reinvention that look like loss before they reveal themselves as preparation.

Her message is rooted in the belief that the most powerful transformation in a woman's life does not begin with a strategy — it begins with a single seed of truth, planted in faith, and surrendered to God's timing. Through her speaking, writing, and coaching, Shoushana equips women to name the lies, choose the truth, and take the one courageous step that changes everything.

What readers are saying

Words that arrive like a permission slip

"This collection shatters the isolation. It reminds us that while our paths are unique, our experiences are shared. We thrive not in solitude, but in community — in relationship with other women who have walked similar fires but emerged with different wisdom."

"Shoushana's chapter wrecked me in the best way. I have been standing at my own doorknob for two years, telling myself I wasn't ready. This chapter gave me the language for what I had been feeling and the courage to finally let go of the door and walk into what's next."
